Hi HCBTC members and guests!
These are the mapquest.com links for the Von Ormy Trip. We’ll copy them to the HCBTC website if the internet gremlins allow it.
Please pull up and print both. That way you’ll have the map to get there and back.

Lytle to Somerset to Von Ormy
********
We’ll go along some of the old roads that head out to Southeast Texas from San Antonio – Old Frio City Road, Quintana, Wisdom Rd., Benton City Rd. We’ll cross Pearsall, but it looks like it’s a fairly busy road with a small shoulder, so I’m trying to avoid it. There’s a rest stop in Lytle, and another one in Somerset.
I made an effort to include Madona. It’s a cute little sleepy town skirted by 1604. I went through the town of Atascosa, but it seems to be no more than a “T”, not even a cross roads, so the route swings out for more meandering country roads, instead. There seems to be a charreada arena on Greenstone. Keep your eye out for hawks during a January ride.
This is the wikipedia article on Macdona – it’s short so I just copied the whole thing.
Macdona, Texas was named for George Macdona, an Englishman, who owned the townsite. [1] The first recorded sale of town lots was dated July 7, 1886. [1] The Macdona post office (78054) opened in 1886. On September 1, 1909, the Artesian Belt opened a forty-two-mile line between Macdona and Christine. [2] In 2000, Macdona was reported to have 297 persons.
